From an article I wrote a long time ago...
Traveling Companions are those Fragments who share your Raw Number from the positions within their own Entities. For example, ALL Fragments who are first in an Entity are Traveling Companions with all other Fragments who are first in their Entity. ALL who are second in their Entity are Traveling Companions with all the others who are second, and so on.
Traveling Companions are not necessarily the same Roles or Casting, but that their Raw positions within the Entity links them mathematically together. Most people will have 6 Traveling Companions, as there are 6 other Entities in your Cadre with the same position as your Essence, but for some of the more populated Entities, an Essence will not have Traveling Companions. For instance, If an entity has 1,205th fragments while the other 6 Entities have at most 1105, then all fragments 1106 and higher will not have Traveling Companions. Not everyone will have a complete set of 6 Traveling Companions, and a very few will have none at all.
Traveling Companions “feel” very much like Essence Twins, so when your Essence Twin is not available within a life, often one of your Traveling Companions is.
Traveling Companions feel like Essence Twins because an Essence Twin IS a Traveling Companion, and every Traveling Companion shares a mathematical link with each other. Every Essence Twin is a Traveling Companion, but not all Traveling Companions are Essence Twins.
