    The 7 Attitudes

People have requested me to bring back my descriptions of the Overleaves in the last 3ish years. Whenever someone brought up how they helped them, I shed a tear inside because I like that stuff I write can help. It's a bit sensitive for me to repost them publicly, but I am pretty done living in any sort of fear as a default, so I'm gonna bring them back. These descriptions are my own summaries of all compiled information on the Attitudes. Attitudes are that part of us that tries to make sense of life's patterns. It is our filter for receiving information and determining what to share in return. This means the Attitude will show up most strongly in Social Situations. It will show up as we gauge the commonalities and differences we have with others upon first impression and our first encounters with someone. On a deeper level, the Attitude is our base Philosophy for assessing life. Each Attitude is necessary to give us a whole perspective of life, but they all have their Blind Spots as well, which will be described below. --- STOICISM The Stoic sees life as if it's all been seen before, viewing everything in terms of its NATURE, behavior and character. You understand that your and others natures are naturally limited in a somewhat deterministic way by what environment & upbringing one has had to work with, but that this is a constant that is easy to discern. This can lead you to develop perceptions that are quite unsurprised, unflinching or even uninterested, because you assess and honor everyone's natures through their capacity for and parameters of self-management, self-awareness and self-control. These are valuable standards you use for measuring one’s ethics and authenticity as well. (Reference: More about Stoics) The Negative Pole of Stoicism is RESIGNATION. The Positive Pole of Stoicism is TRANQUILITY. In -Resignation, you go too long without a surprise, tiring of the same-old patterns repeating over and over, or you grow overwhelmed by too many new surprises in life that throw you off. You give up and stop trying to see any differently, determining everyone and everything is the same anyway, retreating into a false/forced form of calm to defend against what's "too much”, and only seeing the world as diminished, gray, exhausting and all less than it is. (Reference: More about Stoics and Stoic Attitude: Resignation vs Tranquility) This mindset then pushes you into coming across as quite draining, defeated, tedious, difficult to communicate with and lacking in any passion, interest or attention. (Reference: Stoics in Social Situations) This prompts the Stoic’s Blind Spot then: DISCONNECT. When faced with too much monotony or chaos, you can easily disconnect, tune out and turn off because there's too much to process and it just needs to stop being the focus. You're convinced you already know everything there is to know of someone/thing, so you stop navigating your experiences, relationships, struggles etc. because you're tired of these things being presented to you as if new and exciting prospects. (Reference: Blind Spots of Stoic: Disconnect) SLIDING When you fall into -Resignation, you begin to -Believe what you've decided is undeniably true and that there is no use questioning it. To you, everything will simply support your perceptions. To move into +Tranquility, you must +Verify if what you've resigned to is truly an imposition to your capacity for calm, or if it’s just a part of life’s nature you must learn to navigate. You must ask if there is something new and valuable that the experience at hand can bring that can be meaningful to you. In short, you see if there's potential meaning you can uncover or create from knowing why, how or who you/others are. So when you verify, you ask yourself these vital questions for why you feel, think or do as you do, rather than presume you already know the answers. You may also look at whether seeing the way you do is a +Practical/Efficient way to perceive yourself and others that works and feels beneficial or constructive; growing out of your -Dogmatic perspectives that tell you you must constantly resign, succumb, give up and cease all effort. A shift into +Tranquility means you’re able to adapt & adjust your perceptions as a means to be truly calm and at peace because you know you CAN navigate the overwhelming difficulties of life. This is a confident serenity of non-attachment and understanding that embraces your and other's natures & life's familiarity and mundanity as beautiful just the way it is, while still understanding & allowing for any surprises to be a part of life's nature too. (Reference: More about Stoics and Stoic Attitude: Resignation vs Tranquility) So you are able to slow down yourself to internally catch and control your reactions, without feeding any biases or prejudices, or betraying how you feel underneath. And this shows as your being quite cool-headed, attentive, informed and calmly present with yourself and others. (Reference: Stoics in Social Situations) SPIRITUALISM The Spiritualist sees life in terms of POSSIBILITY and POTENTIAL [for this reason I also like to call them the Visionary]. You emphasize being flexible and open in your perceptions of what could be, and always looking for potential signs, messages, meaning, interconnectedness and resonance in everything. You see life as if it's never been seen before, which can lead to excessive credulity or profound awe about the patterns and expressions you see. (Reference: Blind Spots of Spiritualism: Excuses and A Bit on Spiritualist) This Attitude inherently senses there IS ALWAYS possibility, even within any challenges or experiences of fear and anxiety. So you find it difficult to lock onto one idea and rather focus more naturally on multiple at once. Spiritualism can show up as your perceiving and expressing that the spiritual & non-physical forces are parts one must consider and work with in the unfolding of life, but it can also show up as an interest in the great potential we can see and create through the power of our imagination, scientific hypotheses, awareness of the long-term consequences & our capacity to shape subtle thoughts/emotions into tangible actions and results. (Reference: Spiritualism = Philosophy of the Immaterial, Intangible and Non-Physical) The Negative Pole of Spiritualism is BELIEF (aka. BLIND FAITH). The Positive Pole of Spiritualism is VERIFICATION. In -Belief, you become confused by a plethora of symbols and mixed messages coming from all the people, events and voices around you, leaving the truth of things piled beneath layers upon layers of speculation. So instead of sorting these out, you simply decide that if you feel, believe and accept something is true and valid, happened, will happen or is what one must mean by their words/behavior: then it is true. This leaves no room for error, as you proceed to drown out, proselytize or challenge all else against that claim. (Reference: Blind Spots of Spiritualism: Excuses) It can also show up as you sensing & expressing great potential and possibility, but feeling exhausted from hopeful optimism or panicked fear if nothing is taking form. All these possibilities can simply come to feel as if lost or squandered to poor choices/circumstances. -Belief will stretch the truth to elicit strong reactions, either to convince others to believe what you do so you can use them as “proof”, or in ways that keep your own mind spinning about everything that could be true or not true. (Reference: Spiritualists in Social Situations) In other words, Belief decisively concludes the range of Potential you, your life, experiences, relationships etc. are capable of, and doesn't allow anyone to be any more than that. Or Belief sees so much Potential in these things but cannot decide on the truest truth, possibility or option for growth, expressing itself as most indecisive and confused. (Reference: Spiritualists in Social Situations) This complete decisiveness or indecisiveness locks you into a Blindspot of EXCUSES. Excuses happen for the Spiritualist when you always seek to justify your behavior as being caused by anything other than you (ie: the universe, fate, chance, obligations, circumstances, others etc.) You simply use these excuses to avoid taking responsibility for your choices and consequences and to evade verifying your beliefs. So if upset, there will be a reason, and if unsuccessful, it is "this" that had it be so. This leads to passive perceptions like "Let's just see what happens." or "Leave it up to ___." that prevent you from actively making a choice. -Belief thinks it's never true that you could believe and interpret blindly/wrongly, or it never considers that you merely need to alter and adapt your efforts if results go awry. It must be someone else’s doing. (Reference: Blind Spots of Spiritualism: Excuses) SLIDING When you fall into -Belief, you begin to -Resign, give up and stop trying. You know everything there is to know about this situation, relationship, experience etc., and you know their limits of capability that may never be changed. So suddenly, everything becomes blindingly exhausting, difficult and too much, and the world turns grey and diminished, as if all its possibilities never mattered anyways. To move into +Verification, you must Calm Down your body and psyche, and re-center yourself through some form/exercise of +Tranquility when you decide what's true without any support/evidence it is. Doing this allows you to feel at peace, within the "eye of the storm" where you can validate your beliefs with a clearer conscience. (Reference: Grounding for Spiritualist and Michael Speaks: You and your Attitude) You may also choose to act on or express the possibilities you've determined will/must work, to test how +Practical/Efficient they are in forming healthy relationships and experiences- growing out of your -Dogmatic insistence on future potentials that simply may not be feasible, probable or working well for you now. A shift into +Verification means you cross-reference, validate & investigate your beliefs (what you've been told/decided is possible or potentially true) by matching them against various sources based in actuality, experience, history, fact, feedback etc. You always ask questions & question even yourself to check if these beliefs are consistently true. (Reference: Blind Spots of Spiritualism: Excuses and Spiritualism) You perceive the possible worst and best case-scenarios, but work to determine and embrace both logically and intuitively, the most loving, inclusive and probable possibilities and alternatives you and others may imagine and share. Verification also means taking actual action and risks to create in the world what you see could be Potential, rather than hoping things will simply work out for you. As well as listening with an open-mind as a way to help & hear yourself/others out no matter what may be said, rather than feeling compelled to agree with or challenge based on blind assumption. (Reference: Spiritualists in Social Situations) SKEPTICISM The Skeptic seeks to doubt, question and DISPROVE everything, and to investigate for any false claims and misinformation. The strength of the Skeptic is to refine and break everything down, not letting possibilities take precedence over answers; emphasizing disproof over proof because there are far more claims than lack-of-claims in life. The Negative Pole of Skepticism is SUSPICION. The Positive Pole of Skepticism is INVESTIGATION. In -Suspicion, you doubt claims and fixate on proof, assuming inherent/intentional deceit or hidden truths are always involved, and seeking to expose or tear down any deception or misinformation you deem suspect (often through accusation). When it comes to interactions, you probe others just to mock or discredit them, or you overtly or quietly avoid anyone you see as wrong, uninformed or a threat to you being right. (Reference: Skeptics in Social Situations) You may even keep your questions and doubts to yourself, where they build up as mental debris, distrust and distractions and cause an insecurity in ever trusting anyone's perceptions. (Reference: Skepticism - Philosophy of Doubt) Your DISSATISFACTION then is your Blind Spot, where nothing can ever truly satisfy your questions, doubt or investigation, because you have a hard time being wrong or seeing that lack of solid validation & empirical evidence doesn't imply deceit is the only answer. (Reference: Blind Spots of Skeptic: Dissatisfaction) SLIDING When you fall into -Suspicion, -Naivety begins to set in. Expectations and "shoulds" take over, and your dissatisfaction for answers causes you to skip steps and efforts, overlook things, jump to conclusions etc. as you see a gap growing between where you are and where you want to be in an argument or discussion. To move into +Investigation, you must realize your efforts to disprove are actually also to +Coalesce parts into improvement. From this mindset, you must Bring Together more parts of the puzzle/picture than what you see, such as by asking for information that can help, or avidly searching in new or neglected directions, rather than waiting for proof from the same sources or enforcing fixed suspicions that are not being proven. You may also ask yourself if your investigation is actually working, allowing feedback and insights into more +Practical/Efficient methods. Thus growing out of any -Dogmatic and counterproductive insistence you might have to disprove things that cannot currently be disproven. +Investigation means you’re patient in your search for answers, as you ask for help and solutions when you need to, and continually question to learn, understand and build insights. You disprove only to ensure strength in the proof, or flesh out meaning and depth, not to tear down and undermine. (Reference: Blind Spots of Skeptic: Dissatisfaction) You are curious then, and understand that even if presented with challenging, discrepant or surprising information and behaviors, rather than impose any restrictions on others that could clutter/distort their expression of the truth, you use courteous questioning as a way to bring out any new information and behaviors to sort through. (Reference: Skeptics in Social Situations) IDEALISM The Idealist sees that things can & should always be CONSTANTLY IMPROVED upon and made better: always comparing, measuring, assessing and sizing up to an ideal, and challenging anyone’s “resting place” of expectations for improvement. (Reference: Idealists in Social Situations) Idealists will read between the lines, often responding more to what's not said than what is, and will pay much more attention to body language to see/hear beyond any facades or measured responses that are halting improvement. While most Attitudes only see/hear what's directly said and shown, Idealists will often look beyond what IS presented, and rather see the projected patterns they expect to result from that- following up with strong opinions and arguments in support or opposition to those expectations. (Reference: Idealists in Social Situations) The Negative Pole of Idealism is NAIVETY. The Positive Pole of Idealism is COALESCENCE. In -Naivety, you struggle between your high expectations, demands, hopes and wishes for how things and people SHOULD be vs. how those are: unsure, ignorant or unaware of the time, energy, information and steps needed for your ideals to come together and be realized. You forget the steps needed to get from Point A to Point Z (the process towards the vision). (Reference: Idealists and Martyrdom/Greed and Naivety) This can lead you to disregard the responsibilities and consequences involved in moving forward, because you feel it's a given things can/will improve, so your hope begins to justify any heinous, entitled, delusional or irresponsible behaviors you (or others you idealize) may take, and you presume these errors can simply be overlooked. Ultimately then, this results in complete shock, defeat and dismay setting in if your ideal can't seem to be realized. (Reference: Idealist Attitude) -Naivety is also prone to truly seeing the best in you & others through any pain, neglect or abuse, because you hold room for improvement to come, but remain in a limbo where it never seems to. So you're unable to see that sometimes your ideal better picture can't be realized, because there truly are no further parts/pieces to bring together. Or you can't see that others may not be willing to improve in the way you desire, so the ideal simply can't be fulfilled. (Reference: Idealists in Social Situations) This prompts the Idealist’s Blind Spot of COMPARTMENTALIZATION. You tend to subconsciously or willfully ignore, avoid, or distance from the REPERCUSSIONS of your failed expectations so that the whole picture (of your failure to meet your ideals, efforts and processes) can't be seen, felt or experienced any longer. (Reference: Blind Spots of Idealism - Compartmentalizing) SLIDING When you fall into -Naivety, -Suspicion begins to set in. Your attention turns away from improving, and something must be focused on, heavily questioned, disproved, accused and taken apart for your or others lack of awareness of or action towards a better ideal picture. To move into +Coalescence, you must +Investigate what's missing as part of fulfilling your ideal. This would mean you learn more, ask more questions, experiment and build a better, more cohesive plan. What information, research, steps, efforts, communications, behaviors etc. are needed for improvement to come? Are these resources available or can they be created? Can these actually be used to bring your ideal about? You use your critical thinking well and shift your mentality to puzzle together a better understanding of how or why to get to your destination. (Reference: Idealism - The Path to your Ideal) You may also ask if your ideals (or the way you're realizing them) are +Practical/Efficient, turning towards better ways of implementing them that do work. You grow out of -Dogmatic high expectations that aren't helping you, to discover or create new patterns or visions that work much better. A shift into +Coalescence means discerning if your ideals can be fulfilled, and sorting through what steps, parts and efforts are required to come together for them to be realized. (Reference: Idealist and Coalescence) Any setbacks or comparisons in this process toward improvement are informative then for redirecting and ultimately improving your efforts in the short and long-term, rather than seen as burdens that negate and undermine the whole process because you must not be doing things right. (Reference: Idealism) This means you bring the parts, pieces and information that you've received together, to see how they fit into your assessments & ideals. Through this, you gain greater clarity and accuracy in your understanding of yourself, others and any intentions and larger patterns. And you always remember to make room for variables that could improve the ideals or assessments you/others make: never conclusive that what is is all there can be. (Reference: Idealists in Social Situations) CYNICISM The Cynic seeks to ACTIVELY OPPOSE, bring up the flip side of, and look beyond what’s obvious, appears to be, or is commonly assumed to be true, knowing that there’s more than meets the eye and helping all involved see what IS NOT apparent. As such, the Cynic often "doesn't miss a thing", and can "throw a wrench" into smooth socializing by challenging other's perceptions & pointing out/addressing what others won't (even if passive-aggressively or internally). The Negative Pole of Cynicism is DENIGRATION. The Positive Pole of Cynicism is CONTRADICTION. In -Denigration, you can't accept that what's presented is all there is to know or see, and try to break things/people down far more than they can be. The truth is just too simple or not complex enough. You feel what is cannot ever be the only thing. (Reference: Blind Spots of Cynic: Obsession) Locked onto this exclusive emphasis and insistence on what's not apparent, you automatically adjust your perceptions to actively counter, cut down or fight against any opposition to your claims, perhaps even presenting false realities you might not even believe in as a way to control debates, corner others & impose a common-denominator of absolute truth. This means you begin to oppose only to hurt, belittle and devalue, actively undermining and destroying everyone's strength of integrity and personal truth, including your own. (Reference: Cynicism - Philosophy of Virtue and Cynic Attitude and Polarities) You may even make up contradictions when there is nothing to actually point out, just to be contrary and have something to stand against. Or you may say back-handed compliments and smugly/secretly loaded statements while justifying the impact of your words by bluntly saying you're only being realistic, "telling it like it is" or "just telling the truth." (Reference: Cynics in Social Situations) This can lead you into the Cynic’s Blind Spot of OBSESSION, where you may constantly perpetuate the most outlandish conspiracies, or see denigration as a necessary evil that is noble and important to impose to find the “secret truth”. Even if it means stretching, distorting or making up facts beyond recognition. (Reference: Blind Spots of Cynic: Obsession) SLIDING When you fall into -Denigration, you become -Subjective. Everything begins to feel too real/personal and all that you see ISN'T true, heard or seen of people, things, experiences etc. suddenly IS the truth of those. To move into +Contradiction, you must be aware of the actual effects of your actions, thoughts and words: becoming +Objective about how you are presenting yourself, communicating and being received. And seeing the reality of others perceptions and the world as is, being just as valid as your own interpretations. This means you must surprise yourself by questioning your own intents and perspectives. Think differently. Try a different angle. Try expanding/changing your focus. All these do not ignore the reality of what's affecting you, but help you find realistic solutions & alternatives to what's affecting you. You may also question whether your methods of actively opposing are creating +Practical/Efficient scenarios that serve your intent; growing out of your -Dogmatic insistence on breaking everything down to degraded pieces. A shift into +Contradiction means you question the status quo & bring light to what's been missed or seems unapparent to yourself or others, only if you see that attention to what's not seen will be beneficial. (Reference: Cynicism - Philosophy of Virtue and Old Soul Cynicism) If seen as potentially valuable to share, you would then present and invite these other perspectives to help you and others expand upon your/their perceptions. (Reference: Cynics in Social Situations) So you encourage open debate & active contradictions to the social norm as a way to include what's necessary for addressing, look beyond the surface to see the actual content underneath, discern the truth of the matter, and promote freedom of nature and reason. (Reference: Cynic Attitude - Connection to Canine Behavior) However, you also accept that sometimes the truth of someone/thing that is seen, known or experienced is just that, and there is no blind dichotomy or secret/hidden meaning. So you doubt and question as a means to learn more, and that is that. (Reference: Blind Spots of Cynic: Obsession) REALISM The Realist sees life FOR WHAT IT IS, as it is presented or appears to be. You always aim to see and understand the bigger picture patterns at play, or the factual & experiential reality of the situation that has proven to be "real" and trustworthy in the long-term. (Reference: Realist Attitude elaboration) Whether life does or doesn’t suck, and whether your ideals are being fulfilled or not is seen as important to consider, but irrelevant and irrespective to the importance of dealing with reality. (Reference: Blind Spots of Realist: Inconveniences) Because you realistically know that anything unanticipated could happen and make room for that, even if you're surprised by what's done, said or felt, you tend to express a lack of shock/outrage towards that, preferring to just work with it. (Reference: Realists in Social Situations) The Negative Pole of Realism is SUBJECTIVITY. The Positive Pole of Realism is OBJECTIVITY. In -Subjectivity, the reality of an experience (be that the words and actions of others, or the disappointments and frustrations in yourself and your life) suddenly feels personal, unnerving or disorienting and you lose your sense of clarity, distance and confidence in your choices and perceptions. (Reference: Blind Spots of Realist: Inconveniences) Reality then becomes weighty, numbing and overwhelming, as what you feel & experience, and what appears to be real to you is the only true reality. The only reality is the feelings you have about that experience, and the reasons you use to defend that: not the truth of it. (Reference: Realist Attitude) Or Reality can become so personal that it paralyzes you, so you distance from its effects, resigning to the fact that you’re just another thing things happen to. Thus “it is what it is” and your feelings about that don’t matter. (Reference: The Balanced Realist and Poles of Realist) This essentially means you shrug off your reactions AS a defensive reaction to keep things from "getting too real", and you may even lash out as a last resort of forcing a false sense of distance. (Reference: Realists in Social Situations) You can no longer see yourself as a PART of the Dynamic, feeling sucked into the middle/focus of your relationship or experience. Both of these extremes may even lead you to quickly dismiss all new input that challenges your sense of reality, and even shame yourself or others with an "I could've told you that." "I told you so." or "What did you expect." that further concludes your stance. (Reference: Realists in Social Situations) This can trigger the Realist’s Blind Spot to rise: INCONVENIENCES. More than anything else, the Realist hates feeling imposed upon by, and not knowing how to objectively deal with inconveniences to the quality & benefit of any convenient or comfortable paths, patterns and ways you've secured in your life to help stay objective: especially in times where realities of hardship and struggle may arise. (Reference: Blind Spots of Realist: Inconveniences) SLIDING When you fall into -Subjectivity, you begin to -Denigrate. Everything becomes a matter of facing opposition, and it's no longer about what IS real, tangible and dependable, but about wishes, longings for and expectations of what ISN'T being that way. (Reference: Realist Attitude elaboration) To move into +Objectivity, you must be open to question your assumptions and +Contradict/Oppose yourself: to expose yourself to the opposite of what you think is true of yourself, others, or a situation. In doing so, you can clear your mind from the clutter of subjective interpretations, doubts, confusion and hurt and clear your senses with a "reality check", bringing out a confidence in clearer perspectives and a greater openness to your reality and other perceptions of it. You may also shift towards more +Practical/Efficient perspectives that help you balance and broaden your objectivity; growing out of any -Dogmatic insistence to see life in ways that only delude and obscure your clarity of reality. A shift into +Objectivity means you see & know that life is not personal, it happens- choices have consequences, actions have impact, and feelings are important but not the whole truth. (Reference: Blind Spots of Realist: Inconveniences) So you listen to self and others, offer insight as a sounding board to help return a balanced, whole and confident perspective, and navigate life with this in mind. (Reference: Realists in Social Situations and Poles of Realist) You learn to include in your understanding that there's always more context & information to know beyond what's seen, and that what you do know is only a part of the bigger picture that will come to be seen and understood with time. (Reference: Appearances and Truth) Due to this, you're open to all experiences, so be if you trust them or not because you see, explore and experience them for what they objectively ARE. You allow both your interpretations/feelings about things and the independent existence, form and function of those things to be real & valid. (Reference: The Balanced Realist) Neither has to complicate, eclipse or usurp the other because both are simply a part of the bigger picture. (Reference: Realist Attitude) For example, if a Realist bumped into a railing, they’d own the possibly painful experience & resulting feelings and nurse the wound, while also knowing that the railing isn't a personal affront- they just bumped into it. That's all that objectively happened. (Reference: Realist Attitude) PRAGMATISM The Pragmatist sees life in terms of WHAT WORKS; setting down rules, structures, strategies and orders based on what’s known to work, and then using whatever other Attitude is deemed most appropriate, practical or effective for the situation. The Pragmatist builds theories for how life works based on past experiences, that can then be put into practice (done/said) to test their effects. So what happens as a result of that application becomes a practical source of experience, insight, feedback and knowledge for you, that then brings up new theories you can later apply. As such, Pragmatism can be seen as a philosophy that values the principle of Cause and Effect. (Reference: Pragmatist) The Negative Pole of Pragmatism is DOGMA. The Positive Pole of Pragmatism is PRACTICALITY (aka. EFFICENCY). In -Dogma, you repetitively insist upon what must work & must be seen, understood or done right by you and others, and you're blind to any other options offered to you beyond what you've determined, that could help make things more efficient: utterly immovable and unwavering in your perceptions. (Reference: Blind Spots of Pragmatism - Insensitivity) You carry into your interactions and inner voice a "my way or the highway" stance. (Reference: Blind Spots of Pragmatism - Insensitivity) So you might even present yourself as an obvious or passive-aggressive nit-picking and badgering micro-manager that continually enforces counterproductive principles and procedures upon everyone; or demands that the tools, resources and solutions you expect- be available and show up when you most need them. (Reference: Pragmatists in Social Situations) Dogma will continue to do, think, feel and express as it does, even if it isn't working for others or even you. And sometimes this may mean you can choose not to do or say anything at all, just so you can filter others out and focus on your predetermined stance only. (Reference: Pragmatists in Social Situations) The Pragmatist’s Blind Spot then is your INSENSITIVITY towards any impractical struggles you or others may have that you deem should be more easily worked out. This is because you can become so used to dismissing & denigrating inefficient struggles by oversimplifying solutions: "stop struggling", "let it go", "don't respond", "it's not worth it", "suck it up", "walk away" etc. So rather than listening & helping you and others through the deepest and messiest challenges of life, you justify your dogmatic behaviors with the fact that it's tiresome extra effort for you to Inefficiently Empathize with what you believe doesn't work, and is a ridiculously messy and inefficient way of doing, thinking or feeling. (Reference: Blind Spots of Pragmatism - Insensitivity) SLIDING Pragmatism can use any other Attitude to enforce Dogma or bring Practical Efficiency. Sliding to Stoicism would mean you aim to remain centered and calm about the nature of the scenario; passively resigned and giving up to how you’ve determined it must or does work, until peacefully embracing and navigating within that range of nature. Sliding to Spiritualism would mean you use your intuition & feel out the possibilities of what could be practical; blindly believing what you/others think and deem works, until verifying those potentials through continual feedback & experience. Sliding to Skepticism would mean you investigate & disprove claims of what you and others determine works; being fixated on suspicion, doubt and accusation at the expense of evidence and feedback, until asking yourself/others the questions that need to be asked so you can gather practical info for insight and solutions. Sliding to Idealism would mean you focus on improving patterns in socializing, relating and pursuing to be more practical; naively expecting what should work must work, until bringing together what's needed for your ideal to actually coalesce. Sliding to Cynicism would mean you actively oppose all parts and processes of you/others that aren't working; either to degrade, undermine & cut down/out that which you determine is ridiculously inefficient, or to show that there's more to consider and see beyond the surface that could be more practical and efficient. Sliding to Realism would mean you see the experience at hand for what it is, as it simply works, and that is that; feeling unnerved and disoriented by that fact in ways you feel submerged by or that you must distance from for the sake of sanity, until seeking to bring a more confident, wholesome & balanced perspective of that working process. (Reference: Intimacy for the Pragmatist) A shift into +Practicality means you are receptive and open to all the options and feedback you’re offered from within or around about what can work, could work, or has worked. You then experiment with those options to determine and choose the most efficient, productive, adaptable and helpful choices/methods given the context. As such, Practicality is aware that there's always MORE THAN ONE WAY. (Reference: Pragmatist) The Practical Pragmatist is Efficient, not just in your assessments & exchanges, but also in how you choose to express yourself, use resources to build your intentions, and even in the way you adjust to changes. Being the neutral attitude, it's natural for you to observe how everyone is maneuvering and behaving as a way to figure out the playing field you’re in, and make the best choices given the circumstances- so you'll tend to only give insight, feedback or direction, if it's seen as necessary or beneficial to yourself or others. 2.
  3. [Extracted from Michael Speaks: June 2005] [Annsge] I would like to know about the secondary chief feature. I’ve heard that it affects the mode and/or it affects relationships. Is there anything in particular that is helpful in working with the 2nd CF? How does it affect relationships–and/or does it affect relationships more than the Primary CF? MEntity: We have spoken of the Secondary Chief Feature as affecting the Attitude and the Mode, depending on the context of the questioning. When we spoke of the Attitude being affected, there was less understanding as to how the Mode worked. The Mode is not one of the more understood Overleaves. We would, then, say that there are three tiers to the effects of a Chief Feature, making a Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Chief Feature system. Primary Chief Feature affects the GOAL; the Secondary affects the MODE; the Tertiary affects the Attitude. It is NOT that there are three distinctly different Chief Features in your Overleaves, but that there are three AREAS in which a Chief Feature will be distinctly visible. Although these areas may very well have three distinctly different Chief Features, it is also quite common to have one Chief Feature rule all three areas. These areas, then, would be the areas of Self-Fulfillment, Relationship-Fulfillment, and Philosophical Fulfillment, or the Goal, Mode, and Attitude, respectively. The Chief Feature that affects the Mode is the Chief Feature that affects your experience of EXPRESSION. In addition, then, the Chief Feature that affects your GOAL affects your experience of ACTION, while the Chief Feature that affects your Attitude affects your experience of INSPIRATION. The Chief Feature that affects your Mode/Expression/Relationships is the Chief Feature that is used to protect you from INTIMACY. Your Mode describes not only how you express yourself internally and externally, but it also describes how you approach or repel Intimacy. When we speak of Intimacy, we are speaking of the spectrum of experience that could be described as SAFETY. In other words, the Chief Feature that is enlisted as your protector against Intimacy is doing so because you have learned that you are UNSAFE in your Expression and in your Relationships. We remind you that a “relationship” and “intimacy” is not exclusive to human interaction, but can include your sense of relationship to and intimacy within yourself, your aspirations, goals, etc. This subject can be explored much more deeply in a more appropriately provided format. We believe what we have shared is a good start. We, of course, have much to say on this subject. In terms of alleviating the effects of the Secondary Chief Feature, one would always find the quickest and “easiest” route to be through that of the Attitude. In ALL cases of Chief Features, the Attitude is the one overleaf that can dismantle them all. If one can find a conscious means to implement a behavior to bring the Attitude into the Positive Pole, one can dismantle the effects of the Chief Features in a powerful “domino or cascade effect.” Using the Positive Pole of the partner Attitude on the shared Axis, one can then move directly into the Positive Pole of the original Attitude. For example: If one is an Idealist, one can move from Naiveté (negative pole) to Coalescence (positive pole) by using INVESTIGATION, which is the Positive Pole of the Skeptic. To explain this more personally: The Idealist sees life in terms of how it SHOULD BE. This often leads to Naiveté because he tends to believe he can or should do far more than he is capable of doing. The Idealist then piles his life full of obligations and improvements to the point of disappointment and sometimes to the extent of harming himself or others. He has not accepted that to get from point A to point Z requires the steps in between. This is a form of Naiveté. This “negative” Attitude then cascades throughout the Overleaves, weighing them down into the Philosophy of CONSTANT IMPROVEMENT (or that everything should be “better”) without the means or method to do so. The Philosophy is not the problem; it is simply the lack of Coalescence that blocks this fragment. Coalescence could be defined as the culmination of several factors that can eventually manifest the Ideal. One can now see how INVESTIGATION might help an Idealist to dismantle his fears. If he would simply seek to understand (investigate) the steps required that would create his Ideal, he would not remain under the weight of Naiveté. Once he grasps and implements the process of realizing the Ideal, he is immediately back in Coalescence and free from Chief Feature. This same method can be applied to ANY Overleaf, but starting with the Attitude is the most empowering and immediately revitalizing because Attitudes are linked to the energy of Inspiration. Once the feed of Inspiration is returned to the Personality, most often “anything” can then be done.

    Modes

[Extracted from Michael Speaks: Modes] [MEntity] ... First, we will share that each of the Overleaves tend to be showcased, presented, emphasized, brought to the forefront of a Personality in different contexts. Depending on the context, a specific Overleaf is leading the Personality for that context. For instance, in SOCIAL situations, the Attitude is the most prominent Overleaf that is used for leading the Personality. In RELATIONSHIPS, it is the Mode. We realize that Social interaction may be consider variations on “relationships,” but we differentiate these by the level of intimacy that is intended or sought for exchange. In “Social” situations, we speak of the level of interaction that emphasizes “getting along” over “getting intimate.” Social situations seek commonalities in viewpoints, or challenges to viewpoints. In Social situations the commonality or challenge is primarily in the realm of philosophies, expression, and information exchange. In “relationships” the commonality or challenge is primarily in the realm of intimacy, resonance, meaning, emotions. The Attitude has a voice. The Mode is mute. The Mode can only “feel,” intuit, “know,” perceive, etc. The Mode bypasses logic in its support or challenge to intimacy. When in groups beyond 2, it is likely that the Attitude is at the forefront for interaction. But even within a group, if conversation or exchange moves to a more ordinal exchange, a more intimate exchange, then the Mode kicks in, so to speak. It is not necessarily the number within the group that is the determining factor, but how one is focusing upon those within the group. If there is a sense of each individual, then the Mode is probably emphasized, but if the group acts as its own entity, and recognition of individuals is rather fleeting, it is most likely the Attitude interacting. The Mode requires a Connection at the very least, and full-blown Resonance at its best. In fact, it could be said that those terms may be used as Negative and Positive poles for the Term “Mode.” Connection would be an anticipated, speculated commonality, while Resonance would be valid, mutual recognition of commonalities. For the most part, the difference between Connection and Resonance is the difference in the degree of space and time involved. “We have a Connection” is often the anticipated, speculated (and hopeful) initiation of a relationship, whereas Resonance is validated from experience and exploration, which requires space (as in, physical interaction) and time (as in, digestion of experiences). Keeping in mind that one can RELATE to anything from an object to an intention to an animal to a person to a soul and all the way to Tao, it will be helpful to understand the spectrum between Connection and Resonance. We spoke of the comparison of the Attitude and Mode only as a means to exemplify the differences, but for no other reason. In our system, the Mode not only describes how one relates to others, but within the Personality it describes how one relates to the motivation for the lifetime as described by the Goal. Understanding your Mode can help you grasp the challenges or the commonalities that you may feel about your Goal for the lifetime.
  5. [Excerpt from Energy Report: July 2012] As a cycle of pre-measured time unfolds, such as a year, it can be anticipated in understanding similar to describing and anticipating any Personality. Any system, such as another Personality system, Astrology, and even frequencies and meanings of color, could be used to describe these cycles of time, as they could also be used to describe geographical locations, communities, etc. because if there is a basic understanding of any system, it can be superimposed in a way that is quite useful and empowering. The greater the understanding of the system, the greater the understanding of that which is being superimposed upon. However, a vital, key awareness in any process of interpretation or superimposition is that “the map is never the terrain.” In other words, we can describe the year in Overleaves, Astrological terms, Color, etc, but that year will never exist through only those words; you still must live through the year as a way to know that year. This is true of any map. The ATTITUDE in our system of Personality is the individual's “map” of the terrain through which they will journey. It is your system of superimposition and interpretation. The Attitude is the lens through which one perceives, interprets, and archives his or her life, but IT IS NOT THE LIFE. When one looks at a map of New York City, it is not the same thing as walking its streets. When one looks at the stories of history books, it is not the same thing as having been there. When one looks through the eyes of his or her Attitude, it is not the same thing as what is being seen. We point this out because the shift in July moves in emphasis from the MODE to the ATTITUDE. Your Attitude is your collection of maps. One's Attitude is never just one map, but many, and always a collection that supports the same basic system of interpretation and superimposition that you are working to explore. This system is described by the name of the Attitude. One begins to collect maps of the terrain of their life soon after the 2nd Internal Monad, or when one actually begins to develop his or her own stable mobility. The maps used at 10 years old are very different from the maps used at 21 or 45 or 75, but they can be strikingly similar, with the maps building in extensiveness rather than in replacement, though a complete replacement of one’s maps can and does change, depending upon imprinting. As with our own Overleaf System, or any mapping system, the system of interpretation and superimposition is fairly neutral, and cannot determine the experiences that one will have when actually exploring the “terrain.” For example, the Idealist or a Spiritualist Attitude do not have an easier time, or a better perspective, than a Cynic or a Skeptic, but these different Attitudes do have very different systems of interpretation and superimposition; very different maps. One of the reasons we find that the cycles of a year move through an emphasis on the Attitude is so that all Attitudes may have a period of time each year to “see” the maps that may not be their own. We might compare this to one person becoming rather dependent upon a Subway Map of New York City, but then finding themselves looking at a map of walking tours through the Parks of New York City. It is not that one is better than the other, but having exposure to both (and more) can greatly enhance one's understanding of the city, and this can be said about your own exposure to the different Attitudes and maps that are used around you. You will always return to your own map, but there would come to be a sense of these other maps that can be carried with you and understood, even if not your default map. This allows you to understand the greater collective experience. To deny this expansion would be similar to someone describing New York City only terms of its Subway routes, denying all maps of waterways, Restaurants or Parks or Museums, etc. There is a necessity for multiple maps for a single terrain, because a single terrain offers up multiple layers of experiences. Your Attitude is not the truth, it is merely your means of exploring the truth. Soul Age often corresponds to the number of maps one can carry, if you will. The younger the soul, the fewer the maps, and the more invested and engrossed one is with the maps that are one's own. However, as the soul grows, the Personalities begin to carry around more maps, or put in terms relative to our Teaching, the Attitude expands. As the soul ages, its corresponding Personalities seek to understand more and more maps that are not one's own, and this is why we share the Energy Report. Understanding the collective world as it is being explored through a dominant, collective Attitude, helps one to expand upon one's place within the largest map of all, that eventually includes all of you.
  6. MICHAEL SPEAKS Online 011308 [Michael Entity] : Hello to everyone. We are here. We've been asked to expand on the Overleaves in a way that might add more "dimension" and context for the practical use of the Overleaves, and we can do so. What we have shared about the Overleaves, in general, is "just the beginning." What we will share with you today is how these Overleaves "show up" in the basic contexts of your daily existence. What we will share is a way to be more aware of the Overleaves in a way that can be observed and then that overleaf can be more consciously utilized in other contexts where it might not be so obvious. We will start with the Goal. If you have ever wanted to observe your Goal in effect most clearly, this Overleaf is most obvious in the context of your EXTERNAL LIFE. By this we mean that this overleaf is what you use as your motivation behind all of your choices that are in relation to the external world, to life, in general. Within that context, it could be said that the Goal is the Overleaf that describes what you reach out for in the world in terms of experience, or more precisely, the Goal describes what you wish to bring back with you from your experiences. It does not ultimately describe HOW, or IF, but it does describe WHAT. For instance, if your Goal is Acceptance, this means any experience that is taken from your day can be traced back to that particular Goal and you would do well to see how this describes WHAT you sought in your choices throughout the day from the general contexts of your external life. It could be said, then, that the Goal resonates to the Moving Center and the Action Axis. We share this axis resonance with you as a foundation for future information we have to share, as well, because we will eventually go through each Goal (and mode, attitude, etc.) and what each overleaf means in light of this information. We also share these resonances, not only for future reference, but for your further exploration on your own as you draw connections and cross-references throughout these resonances. We will also include here that the Goal could be said to be your method of entrance into the world in terms of PROJECTS. In this case, we mean "projects" as a key term to help simplify the general point of your motivation for reaching out into the world of experience in the first place. Next, we will share about the Mode. In terms of the Mode, then, it could be said that the Mode is your entrance into your world of RELATIONSHIPS. If you want to fully understand how your Mode manifests, it can most easily be seen in the context of Relationships, or more specifically, in the world of INTIMACY. In this case, we would define "intimacy" as being your method of resonance to something beyond you. This is why the Mode is often described as "how you go about reaching the goal," because your relationship to experience (your Goal) is still a relationship, which is then described by your Mode. The Modes resonate to the Emotional Center and the Inspiration Axis. The Mode resonating to the Emotional Center implies accurately that Modes are about PERCEPTIONS, which greatly affect your interpretation of OTHER in relationships; Perceptions being the Positive Pole of the Emotional Center. Furthermore, the Modes' resonance to the Inspiration Axis will help shed light on the dynamic required for INSPIRATION and how that works for each of you, which we will discuss in future sessions about the Overleaves. It should be noted, as well, that we do not limit these Overleaves' resonance to the Lower Centers, but include the Higher Centers, as well, though we wish to focus on the Lower only for the sake of tangibility and practicality, not because the Higher Centers are excluded. In other words, it could be said that the MODES are how one might eventually manifest LOVE in the life, or the Higher Emotional Center. In addition, the GOAL might be how one could be said to manifest BEAUTY, or Energy, in the life, as it resonates to the Higher Moving Center. By "beauty" and "energy," in this case, we mean that one brings about a sense of pattern to experiences and begins to see this pattern as perfect and beautiful, not as random and chaotic, or imposed. Next we will speak of the Attitude. The Attitude could be said to be your entrance into the world of COMMUNICATION. If one were to see how this most displays itself, it is usually most prominent in the realm of SOCIALIZING, or any realm of exchanging information. The Overleaf describes how one communicates to others through the primary personal philosophy one has chosen for the life. It also describes how one LISTENS, or hears, in terms of Communication, as it is quite difficult to communicate outside of your personal philosophical stance. In other words, if one is an Idealist, it could be said that Communication is primarly going to lean toward the philosophy of IMPROVEMENT. It does not mean that one cannot exchange outside of that philosophy, but that when an Idealist is fully present, then communication is bent toward that philosophy, steering all expression and reception through the Ideal. The Attitudes, then, resonate to the Intellectual Center, and the Expression Axis. By association, this also means that the Attitudes describe how one communicates his or her TRUTH, as the Attitudes resonate to the Higher Intellectual Center, as well. It could be said then that all communication passes through this overleaf as a means to help evolve, question, develop, transform, update, etc. the concepts of Truth for the life. In that respect, one can see how this Overleaf can tend to be the most obvious in social situations, as that context can quite often bring to light how one expresses his truth, hides it, or protects it. Next, we will speak of the Role. The Role could be said to resonate to your INTERNAL LIFE. This is who you are "at the end of the day," when alone, and "catching up with yourself." This is the part of you used to make sense of "it all." This is the part of you that digests and stores the experiences, the communications, the intimacies of the day, year, and life. Remember that ESSENCE and ROLE are two very distinct terms, though they are used interchangeably, easily. This is why we speak in terms of "Role in Essence," as the Role is an overleaf that the Essence chose for the cycle of lifetimes. The Role resonates to the Instinctive Center and the Assimillative Axis as this is the part that carries over from lifetime to lifetime. It could be said to be the Overleaf that asks at the end of the day, "what does all of this mean to me? how does all of this contribute to my evolution? why did I make the choices I made?" This is also the very primary level from which ALL of your choices are made, whether in Projects, Intimacy, or Communication. The Role is from where you draw your consciousness as it grows from Experience, Relationships, and Socializing. And so it could be said that this is also the part of you that you bring TO your day; the constantly-refreshed version of you for the new set of experiences explored within the next day, month, year, and even life. Differentiating these contexts and how each Overleaf is showcased in these contexts can help bring about an awareness that one might not have had, before, in terms of grasping how his overleaves work in the day-to-day. Upon exploring these contexts, you can also look at where one might have "issues" or how one might resolve "issues" related to that particular context of life. For instance, if one is missing Intimacy within the life, one would look to the Mode for insights into how one might find resolution to the issues connected to intimacy and relationships. If one is feeling a lack of participation in the world-at-large, so to speak, and feels a lack of energy, an increase of frustration in the life, looking to the Goal can help in bringing insights into how to bring one back into a conscious participation again. If one finds oneself rejecting or uncomfortable in social situations, it could be of help to explore the primary truths, the Attitude, as a starting point for what motivates this division. We could go on with many different paths of examples, but we believe this will be a good starting point to offer within the time frame available today through this channel. We will include here that we have more to say in terms of how the Body Type, Centering, and Soul Age play into this, but these will be discussed in future sessions. [AnnH] : I am having trouble understanding how the assimilation axis overleaves operate in this context. Ex. my mode is observation: How does clarity vs. surveillance work in terms of relationships? [Michael Entity] : It could be said that, in terms of relationships, you are divided from the other, observing from a distance, removed, never truly intimate, but "surveilling" when functioning from the negative pole. In the positive pole, it could be said that you are able to drop the division between you and other and truly grasp his, her, or it's presence in relation to you. In other words, you allow OTHER to be seen and included in your vision, your clarity, rather than through a metaphoric plate glass window. When in Surveillance, yes, you can smile and nod and even make "googly eyes" through that window, but Other is never truly able to be seen clearly, to be present for you, to be within reach of true intimacy, because you are "keeping your eye on him, her, it," which, ironically, does not allow for as much clarity as one might think, because without allowing the Other to be fully present, you do not have all of the information available. For simplistic purposes, it could be said that Observation Mode is either at-a-distance, or up close (negative, and positive poles, respectively). We remind you that the entire spectrum described by an Overleaf is available to you and while the positive poles "feel" better most of the time, and allow for manifestation of Essence, it is also valid to utilize the negative poles as part of your experiences of a life as Personality. [Kathryn41] : How is casting incorporated into this scenario? Is it more reflective of 'essence's nature apart from the role and other overleaves? Does it even count as an overleaf, or is it more of the innate nature of essence? [Michael Entity] : We would not consider "casting" to be an Overleaf, but you are correct in seeing this as more reflective of an innate nature of Essence. Casting describes a mathematical relationship of your Essence relative to other Essences, and this does affect the Essence (and by extension, the Role) greatly, but not within the contexts we have shared today. However, we will say that we do have much to say about how Casting can be more tangibly explored within your days, and we will get to that in future discussions, if it chosen for pursuit. As a quick response, we will say here that the Casting is another context that helps bring about an understanding of how one relates, but from the Essence Level, not the personality level, and we would add that "casting" would include not just the primary position within the cadence, but the cadence numbering, itself, and the entity number. These three numbers can be discussed in terms of how one can bring a conscious awareness to how one exists as Essence in relation to other Essences. We already know this is a topic of interest and intend to delve into this with those of you who are interested. Good day to each of you. Goodbye.
