Y'all, I get obsessed with things sometimes. I've always been like that. Find a song I like and then I need to hear the whole album, then I need to hear every album by that artist. Read a short story I like, then I have to read every book by the author. It's the same with TV and movies. It's not quite the same with food tho. With food it's more like, find a dish I like, then every time I go to a restaurant that serves that dish, I have to have it at some point just to know which restaurant serves the best version of that dish.

My current obsession is The Expanse. I've watched every episode, listened to every podcast, been to the author's website, read every available book, gotten basic bios on all the main actors, and I just bought two expanse related tshirts on a whim because they were on sale. And I can't wait to put them on. Other current obsessions are podcasts in general (I'm addicted to them), knitting/crocheting/weaving (had to take a break because of serious carpel tunnel but I keep thinking of new projects to start), and Steven Universe. I keep checking the interwebs for new episodes to watch them before they air, and there is going to be an actual album that I can't wait to buy. If I were into cosplay I'd be working on a Smokey Quartz costume on the side. I've wondered if this is a passion mode thing or if it's just a me thing.

Anyone else in passion mode experience this kind of thing where you find something you like and you feel the need to devour everything about it ever? Anyone have current obsessions regardless of your mode?

Oh yes! I do a similar thing with books, music, and other 'unmentionables in polite company.'

Your unmentionables must be really interesting. LOL And you aren't in passion mode either. Hmmm.

I do this with authors , languages/cultures, dancing. I slide to Passion.

I've done it with languages too. I've tried to learn 11 languages, (9 real, and 2 fictional). Eventually my passion fizzles tho, so I'm fluent in none of them. LOL

I am fluent in one other language than English and used to be conversant in a third. I wouldn't claim to be now, though.

If you say you are fluent in klingon, I'll plotz. LOL

Interesting you could say, yes, Not uncommon though. I must slide to passion more than I think.

I'm in the middle of a binge right now.

Back in December/January, shortly after a Michael session introducing me to a past life who fought in the American Civil War, I started watching every Civil War documentary I could find. Three of the documentaries I watched were hour-long videos of Ranger Matt Atkinson giving detailed outdoor tours of the various parts of Gettysburg Battlefield. He has a video for Little Round Top, the Peach Orchard, and Devil's Den.
After a few weeks this binge cooled down, but a couple days ago I decided to search specifically for Ranger Matt on youtube, and I've found a library's worth of lectures he gives on the Civil War. He is wonderful and he is my new binge. I've already watched three or four of his lectures in the past two days.
American Civil War and Ranger Matt Atkinson - two binges for the price of one.
EDIT: I also have Passion Mode, unsurprisingly. Everything goes a little wild in the Passion-themed months and years.

Well, quite simply I wanted to.

@Connor, did you ever find the name and batallion of the soldier? If there was a ton of extant material about an event I'd go a little hog wild trying to learn about it too.

@ckaricai

I have not, yet. I'll need another session with Michael to help narrow down where I could find him. Right now all I know is that his name was likely Adam, his uniform was blue, and he survived the war. The moment I know more, you'll know more. It's been five months since my last session, so I'll treat myself soon.

Well, my obsession is keeping up with reading things on TLE. Not a dirty little secret anymore. I just found the library so I am already behind.

Seriously, reading Michael and Non Michael stuff on TLE is a thing for me. It is not that I even have to understand, like, get it, relate to it, I just have to READ the new stuff. Of course life is better if I understand, like, get it, relate to it, but you know, some things just do and some things just don't.

I am in observation mode but I slide to passion and my other passions are landscaping, propagating plants, improving things in the garden, particularly creating privacy screens and different spaces, and trying to hide the driveway and garage, which are both large, ugly, functional and useful. I get wound up and excited to with creating in the garden, kitchen, and on the ukulele. I can get very excited to the point of being ridiculous.

The most recent thing I am obsessive about relates directly to doing what I can about my causes. I keep on thinking back to what the Michaels said about how WW2 happened, that it happened due to lack of vigilant and coordinated action to the onslaught of vilification of Jews/Gypsies/Conscientious Objectors/Disabled/Elderly/Women/Children/LGBTQI/anyone deemed non Aryan, so for 2017 I decided to become a social justice petition signer. When I get up out of bed after breakfast before work everyday, I sign anti Trump/pro Democrat/Green politics/social justice/animal sentience rights petitions, to say that I have taken a stand and let my voice be heard. It is about as much as I can do, globally, besides donating some of my salary fortnightly to Save Animals From Exploitation (NZ), and ACLU (US). I am going to loudly, persistently, and cleanly support compassion and peace, and I am not going to get apathetic or complacent about social injustice. Apathy on social injustice and animal rights disgusts me and saddens me more than anything. So you can hear passion in that, right?

@Connor, the story of this soldier ought to be interesting. When you find out more please do share. Finding out what state he's from and what battles he fought would be enough to find him in muster rolls. Good luck.

@AnnaD I can definitely hear passion in what you are doing.

The day you posted this I went off TLE because I realized how much time I spend here.

It's the first time I've veritably realized being addicted to something. I felt the compulsion to come back on today and made the choice to come on here less frequently.

During my 4 days off I finally started feeling productive again. It's like my mental space cleared. I'm going to keep doing this.

I've rekindled my interest in drawing again, and hope to do the same with video gaming. Hanging with friends more too. Pretty excited I'm making these changes finally!

I had a feeling it would all start up again when this Mode season rolled around. Now it's here.

I've jad many many obssessions. Always thought it was my Scholar Casting influence.

I've been obssessed with maps, map making, list making, astronomy, metronomy, astrology, mbti, overleaves, drawing, story and character brainstorming, generations, anime, avatar, lost, scooby doo, pokemon, zelda, mario etc.

Now I'm getting into cooking and veganism.

How do you find time for all of these interests? Oh, I meant to post in one of the other threads I saw a while back your question about spices. I smell them. If they smell like they go together then chances are that they will taste good together. I also taste them by themselves. After a while you get a feel for what goes with what. I had written a really long post about common spice blends, region specific spices, and common aromatic bases, but decided to delete it because it was getting out of hand. LOL Basically, don't be afraid to experiment.

@Stickyflames, I love that show. I like it more than Scandal. I feel like scandal hits a level of melodrama that I just can't deal with. Kinda like the Fast and Furious movies. The first few have emotional responses that are so over the top they verge on the absurd. I do like Olivia popes outfits tho. I NEED that white coat. And Viola Davis can act. I think her snot bubbles need their own dressing room tho. LOL Whenever her nose starts to run I just want to yell VIOLA, STAHP! Haha.

Scholars like to experiment as well, I understand...we need real experiences.

I relate so much to your opening post @ckaricai. I also get a little crazy when I find something that piques and holds my interest and need to explore it thoroughly, find anything and everything about / related to it as well as finding my most preferred version of it.

The reason or "cause" of obsession is something I was looking into within the context of Michael's system while trying to self-validate (before getting my SP); it's such a noticeable and significant part of who I am and how I function. I've thought about having a session focused on differentiating how obsession manifests between different Roles, OLs, placements in a Cadre or Entity, and any combination thereof. Michael commented that Kings are naturally obsessive but I could also see this for Scholars needing projects to focus on, someone in or sliding to Passion mode, and Warriors' natural tendency toward Perseverance which lends itself to thoroughness of experience. I think it's probably both as simple and as complicated as all individuals/fragments experience obsession one way or another, in different contexts, and due to all kinds of unique combinations of OLs, Roles, placements and Essence history.

However, there are some posts I bookmarked that I think contribute to the specific experience of obsession in the context of being an Action Role in C2 and E1 (I'm in Observation sliding to Passion so that's another layer of similarity in experience):

From Giedre Kotryna's POF-March 27th 2013

[MEntity]: Action Roles, in general, expect results, tangible experiences, and obvious production as a result of action.

[MEntity]: The more the life moves toward the intangible, the more disconcerting this can be for the more solid Roles.

[MEntity]: They may then turn to any form of stimulation, addiction, compulsion, etc. from grounding masturbations to eating disorders to indulgance in drugs or alcohol, just to give the body something tangible, to keep it feeling "alive," "safe," and "doing *something*."

**I saw that you liked this post but I'll leave it to preserve continuity of thought and to keep everything in one spot.

From Validation Themes for Entity 1s

Those from Entity One rarely question what they are DOING, but just DO IT, even if they are concerned that they might need to be doing something else, otherwise or in the future. They continue to DO what they are doing until they determine otherwise. They have a strong momentum.

From Geraldine's session on Cadre 2

Your Cadre is of the "Knowledge" position within the 12 Cadres of your Energy Ring. This lends a theme to each fragment from Cadre 2 to have a bent toward a search, experience, integration, and expression of KNOWING. We will define "knowing" here as completing experiences that bring with it comprehension. Most from Cadre 2 do not approach experiences "half-heartedly" or piecemeal, so to speak, but dive in for the full run. This brings to your Energy Ring the support of endurance and perseverance that is then shared physically, emotionally, energetically among the rest of the Cadres in various ways.

**I think being a Cadre 2 member is of significant influence, especially in thoroughness of experience. I definitely relate to that desire (more likely compulsion) to devour and burn through things of interest until there's "nothing" left ... though I believe there will never be a point where there is nothing left anyways.

I feel like my passion, thus far, is literally anything that allows/helps me to know, understand, learn more about myself. Most times they are personality theories like Jungian-related stuff like MBTI and Socionics, Enneagram and spiritual systems like Michael, numerology, astrology. I notice I'm also subconsciously drawn to experiences and people that point me towards learning about myself.

@catkhv Wow. I can relate to what you posted here. I have gone all in on several things. I stick with something until I either get bored or until I have learned everything I can, or until I feel like I've squeezed all the experiences I'm gonna get from it. Usually I get bored after there's nothing left. I thought for a while that I must have had growth as a goal because of all the different things I've been interested in. It wasn't until later that I realized what I was experiencing could also be described as passion. I don't think I read any of this info about cadre 2 or E1s, so thanks for posting it.

And I hate to be doing nothing. Boredom is the worst possible torture I can imagine. I prefer to do things instead of just talk about doing things. Especially if there is a problem with doable solutions. Let's just fix the problem instead of complaining, so we can move on. I also like to plan out things I intend to do. I need to prepare for likely scenarios. Even planning to do something is still doing something. I can't even relax unless I know it's for a purpose, so that action role bit rings true for me too.

  • 10 months later...

I'm an old Scholar who is a working artist and I am obsessed with creating my art. If I didn't feel that way nothing would get made... so 'yay' for my obsession. The nature of my art allows me to evolve in its expression, meaning that in creating it I am constantly finding new materials to use and learning new ways to manipulate that material by teaching myself new techniques. An example for me would be my recent fascination with beads and wire, things I have not used much in the past. I have a goal of Growth so this fits nicely into my 'hobby'.
