Mature/Old Soul Concepts in Entertainment

I just finished watching a great anime called The Tatami Galaxy and it struck me as very old soul. I had to wonder if the writers are michael students. The main character is a college student who feels that after a series of unfortunate events over two years  he has wasted his college life. He wishes to redo those years, so at the end of each episode he rewinds the past two years to do them again differently only to reach the same conclusion. He finally decides to do nothing but then finds himself in an inescapable room that leads to other near identical rooms. He wanders through hundreds of rooms for months concluding that each room represents the parallel worlds of the various choices he made and the ways they are all connected. Because he's trapped, he has time to really reflect on each choice while he figures out how to get out of the room. Once he realizes he needs to make the choice he's been avoiding for two years he finally escapes the room.

 

I was trying to figure out what about it is very old soul. I've been wanting a definition for this but I guess there isn't a clear definition, but then we keep talking about old soul entertainments and it makes me want some criteria. I think the thing that makes this an old soul show is the way the show plays with reality. How in each episode the main character tries to find happiness. In each episode he is always wondering who is responsible and always blames someone else. But ultimately, each episode is about making choices. Couldn't be more michael teachings than that. 

 

Another old soul anime I've watched is called Welcome to the NHK. I might have mentioned it before, but it's another show that plays with reality. The themes are social anxiety, depression, suicide, and making connections with other people. Exploring bonds we have with other people also strikes me as an old soul, michael teachings sort of thing. 

 

What other themes would be considered old soul/michael teachings?

So then based on this, any story that seems to have a chaotic plot, shifting reality or magical realism, that probably has clear themes about connectedness or some philosophy of some kind would be mature or old soul stories. It certainly describes the Tatami Galaxy really well actually. In each episode the main character explores what his college life would be like if he joined a different club. As the club activities take over his life he tries to figure out how much he's changed. How much of his behavior is because of who he is and how much is because of the ideals of each club. I'm convinced now the creator is a michael student.

I think a show that makes people look at the patterns behind something, or the characters are trying to discover truths about things that aren't normally questioned could be considered old.

I don't watch many shows with lots of episodes and seasons due to my short attention span hehe, but one that comes to mind is The Good Place. Movies: Arrival, The Fountain, Little Forest.. .there are many more, let's tag @Troy for recommendations haha!!

 

Old Soul Entertainment can be practically everything. Let's keep in mind we Oldies can also draw from other Soul Ages to play with their concepts, ironies, and laugh at ourselves, etc... Old simply means expanded perspective.

 

Old Soul Entertainment can feel less "serious", and more "playful", evocative, curious, paradoxical, eclectic, interactive, co-creative

Less "impress", more "express"

Less "rules" as to what is conventionally beautiful, or praise-worthy, "meaningful", etc.

We just wanna feel good and have fun!

A sunset contemplated together can be old soul entertainment/art. A livestream where you see me baking a vegan cake can be art, too LOL

 

Perhaps Old Soul Entertainment "per se" often feels like "breadcrumbs Home". It helps you "Remember", depicts the interconnectedness of Life, Humans, Nature...sparks a "memory" within you, soothes you, helps you tap into some aspect of yourself.

 

Personally, as an Old Soul creator, I just do what makes me and others happy. I celebrate love, uniqueness and co-creativity. I let my Life be my main work of art, a living and evolving masterpiece

So old soul art. and art that expresses old soul concepts maybe are different things. But also, it seems like there is no definitive answer to the question of what is old soul entertainment. This is gonna drive me nuts.

I am guessing what might be old soul themes. The idea that what we sense is not a good representation of all that there is and how all there is exists as a truth and how that works. 

An understanding of each essence's consciousness exists in collaboration and makes choices and learns when incarnate and discarnate on the physical and astral plane. 

 

I just watched Li ziqi, she is a muse for me. She represents themes that are definitely mature/old. She's there to care for her Grandma, she is about sustainability, she cares. Watching her stuff is inspiring and relaxing.

The Tatami Galaxy seems very interesting, so I might give it a watch, thank you! The synopsis reminds me of Erased, where the MC goes back in time to save his childhood friends.

 

Some shows that strike me as Old Soul are Haibane Renmei and The Good Place.

Haibane Renmei is an anime about people who are reborn into a purgatory situation, and they must overcome their personal demons before they can ascend to heaven. It talks about the value of forgiveness and courage. The Good Place has some themes similar to Michael's reincarnation concepts. I can't go into more details without spoiling the show.

Ah, you’re right both shows do have that going back in time aspect to them. The Tatami Galaxy is a hilarious comedy while Erased is kind of a tear jerker. I’m gonna add Haibane Renmei to my watchlist.

Let me know if you watch Haibane Renmei! It's one of my favorites but not many people have watched it. I forgot to mention that in terms of Michael teachings, it makes references to self karma, acceptance of self and others, as well as forming connections with others.
