Nikkal

This is a rendition of nikkal, the oldest complete piece of notated music. It’s sung in Ugarit and was written in cuneiform on clay tablets in what is now eastern Syria, Turkey, and Iraq.  This band in particular is interesting because they use source material from antiquity such as inscriptions on rune stones. The instruments they use are primitive and made from bone and skin. Shutting my eyes and listening feels like being among the village and singing a hymn to the wife of the moon god
